“Jesus said, “Recognize what is before you, and what is hidden from you will be revealed to you; for there is nothing hidden that will not be made manifest.””
My mom used to have this rectangular crocheted blue and white optical illusion stitching. At first glance, it just looked like random crocheted blue and white shapes. The longer you looked at it, the more the shapes came into focus and if you stared long enough, you’d eventually realize that it said “JESUS” in white lettering, with a blue background.
I think this verse is something like that piece of stitchwork. Sometimes the things that seem hidden from us are actually within our view – we just have to look long enough and be willing to allow our perspectives to change.
By looking deeper at what is right in front of us, we can see the hidden things.
But I wondered what types of hidden things Jesus may have been talking about? What is hidden that people are searching for?
Is truth hidden?
And is it hidden because someone is hiding it? Or, is it hidden simply because we are unable to see it unless we are looking from the right perspective? Or, both?
I can’t claim to understand everything about this saying, but my opinion is that hidden spiritual truths are often mirrored by obvious physical realities.
For example, it’s a physical reality that if you break your arm, it needs time to heal. Likewise, if you get hurt emotionally you need time to heal. But we rarely place as much importance on emotional healing as we do on physical healing – because it’s something we can’t see.
What other spiritual truths are hidden in plain sight, or mirrored by our physical realities?
What other spiritual truths will become glaringly obvious if we just stare at it long enough from the right perspective?
What’s something you’ve seen that was hidden in plain sight all along?
